5 Random Friday Finds

Find No. 1

Call me crazy but I kind of miss the days of waiting to pick up Mallory from school and waiting for her at appointments. I use to get so much reading done that way.

Find No. 2

Did you know that McDonald's small chocolate shakes have 550-600 calories in them? That ALMOST made me not get one :)

Find No. 3

Mallory was using this napkin to dull down one of my pencils, which got us into a debate over do people prefer a sharp pointy pencil (like me) or a nice rounded dull pencil (like Mallory). Which do you prefer sharp and pointy or dull and rounded?

Find No. 4

When we were in our local indie book store later that afternoon I found this book.

Find No. 5

Playing with my favorite new iPhone app. Waterlogue earlier this week, I took this shot of some soda in a small cooler at a restaurant and turned it into this...

I leave for vacation on Saturday afternoon and won't be back until the following Sunday, so I will miss everybody next week, but I should have some great random finds from vacation to share the next week.

A great Random 5!
My art teacher at school always insisted you should sharpen a pencil with a knife by hand and never with a pencil sharpener - don't know why...
I'm with Mallory - I like a bluntish one - I always break the tip of a sharp one...
Enjoy your holiday :)

Great random 5. I prefer a blunt pencil too - less scratchy. :) And I'm a fan of waterlogue too - love your image. Have a great trip, look forward to hearing about your adventures. :)

Sharp - definitely! I still need to try waterlogue - maybe this weekend... I just plain miss my kids being little - carting them around, watching them play with friends... Fortunately, I appreciated it then, also. Have an amazing trip!

I miss those days of driving my girls to work or school long ago and waiting and readine too.
#2 almost eh:)
nice rounded pencil for me
Love the book.
Have a wonderful time hope it is somewhere warm. B

I prefer slightly dulled pencils, I always seem to snap the pointy ones. Love that water color app! I've been checking out the nutritional information on all my take outs lately, very educational! Have a great vacation!

Enjoy your vacation!!! Looking forward to your photo shares.

As for the pencil...MUST be sharp and pointy!

And, reading? After blogging came along, most of my reading are blogs. LOL

I like sharp pointy . . .
Loved your Soda Pop Waterlogue!
Happy cruising and photo time . . .
Enjoy being with Mr Paisley Rain Boots too!

Fab five. First -- have a great vacation. I like a sharp pencil. Loved the waterlogued sodas. McDonald shakes have disappearing calories (hee hee hee). A girl can never have too much reading time. Happy Friday!

I like sharp. Enjoy your cruise and I hope all the snow is melted when you come back home.

A fun post Sarah! Wishing you a great vacation this week. After all the snow and cold, you two definitely need to get away to blue skies and warmth. Pencil preference is a mechanical one - not sure which point that fall into. LOVE the waterlogue app!

1. you will take tons of photos
2. you will visit a coffee shop!

You are funny about the shake, it would stop me in my tracks but I am sure it is because I am much older than you and my limit on cal. for the day is much smaller. Love the waterlouge app so much, just try it on almost everything just to see what it will do, it is just one of the best. Love the bottles just grand.

Nice finds for your Friday, except for learning about all those calories in a small chocolate shake! I like sharp pointy pencils too, but prefer a slightly soft lead, like 'B'.
So many people are having fun with the Waterlogue app! It looks like a watercolour which has been applied onto wet paper! It must be fun to use!
Wishing you sunny, sunny days!

i like a dulled pencil, but it's so hard to find a good pencil now days, don't you think? i'm cracking up over the shake, good for you! that is a cool app...my son has one that blows people up and stuff. you take a picture then they explode, or you can have a big spider eat them up...it's pretty funny! have a great weekend :)

I like sharp pencils; in fact, I prefer mechanical pencils with extra-fine lead because they always stay the SAME sharpness. (Plus, you don't need a book on how to sharpen them.) I laughed about your chocolate shake. Some things you'd just prefer not to know. I remember that soda cooler from your 365. Love it! The Waterlogued image is so much more vibrant and interesting (at least to me) than the original photo. I hope you have a wonderful vacation. I'll be looking forward to photos and stories!

#3- sharp and pointy for sure
#4 - funny!
#5- I want that app so bad, but I read that they were not making one for android! :(

Have fun and can't wait to see what you will share from your vacation - coffee shop perhaps?

Sharp! I'm funny that way. Love the app which I'm seeing everywhere! Enjoy your trip Sarah!

I enjoy that extra reading time waiting for my daughter, I still have a few years left...
Sharp pencils. I am loving the Waterlogue app also!
Have a great trip!

How to sharpen pencils ??? and whole book about that, I must be a genius that I manage to sharpen pencils without a book, lol !

Karen said...

Sharp for writing, round for drawing! That's a really cool app.

Deanna said...

I guess I like in-between, not too sharp and not too dull. And a whole book about how to sharpen...wonder if it is a bestseller. Hope you have a wonderful trip, and as always a nice day with Mallory, even with all the calories!!

Cathy H. said...

The shake was probably better than the burger and fries I ate yesterday! I'm a sharp girl, but I do tend to break off the point and they need sharpening again! Maybe I need that book on how to sharpen!! The soft drink image would look great on a kitchen wall. I love how the bottles blurred but you can still identify them! Enjoy your cruise, we'll miss you while you're gone!

I'm in the "Sharp & Pointy" category.
Wow a book on how to sharpen a pencil. That must be a fascinating read!
Cool look you did with the soda's, I love the watercolor effect.
Have a great vacation.

Sharpie point, but I cheat, I always use mechanical pencils. LOVE that app. Really wish it worked with Android. Happy vacation!

Nicki said...

I miss the days of sitting through TaeKwonDo lessons - read so many books that way. Sharp - the pointier the better. And that app is divine. Have a safe and enjoyable trip.

abrianna said...

I prefer a sharp pencil. That second book made me laugh. There is a book for everything I guess.

Sharon said...

I can't believe you found a book on how to sharpen pencils! What a kick! I like the dulled point so I'm with Mallory. Have a wonderful vacation! Treat yourself to another shake -- calories don't count when you're on a trip :)

Carletta said...

It's going for midnight here but a milkshake would be great.
I prefer a sharp pointy pencil. Wondering how many pages are in that book. :)
Love the photo edit!

Bonny Bonafilla said...

I'm sharp and pointy in the pencil stakes but my son (age 8 and left-handed) is dull and rounded. Maybe it's a confidence thing, or maybe the left-handers have different point preferences from us right-handers. Love your waterlogued drink fridge photo. It's kind of like with an impressionist painting: it looks better when the boring bits are smudged out and you just get the essence of the image. Have a great weekend, Bonny @justsaying2u

Sharp & pointy - the only way to go with a pencil!
Love that waterlogue app - my new favorite!
Have a wonderful vacation wherever you are going!

Gotta say I can't stand a rounded pencil..it makes me crazy. I like that app- makes an interesting edit. Have a great weekend!

I also like a sharp pencil...not sure why. Your soda bottles are wonderful...so colorful in the artsy photo.
Have a fun trip...it's a good thing to do...I always considered travel as education...So much to learn out there and it brings such perspective to life..Enjoy

Love the "watercolor" of the soft drinks. (Would I give my Southern-ness" away if I called them all cokes?)

You're not crazy! I am doing my reading while waiting to pick up my son at school, soccer games, and practices too! When I am home, too many things going on for me to be still enough to read :)

I love that app! I wish it worked with my pc since i use that for most of my photography.

I like a sharp pencil! Enjoy your time away!

That Waterlogue app is so cool! Loved the final results of your creativity there!

Great five.

I have trouble with the sharp pencil breaking its lead. I like sharp pencils when drawing.

Have a great vacation.

Love this! I finally got the Waterlogued app too and love it.

I like what you did with that photo. Hope you had a great time away.

lovely photos, I hope you have a lovely week away

Great post! I hope you are having a great vacation. And, a sharp pencil for sure. Unless, I've been the one to dull it while writing, then that's okay, but to pick up a dull one...do not like that at all. Ahhh...pencils, alas, they may become a thing of the past. NEVER here!
