5 Random Friday Finds

I am taking Vivienne McMaster's Be Your Own Beloved self-portraiture class right now. This class is just the spark of creativity I needed this week. Faced with day after day of snow and cold, I needed something to make me pick up my camera. Each day we get a prompt to somehow include ourselves in the photo. Thursday's prompt was a photo walk around our neighborhood and include our hand in the shot to showcase things we found on our photo walk.

Did I mention earlier the snow and the cold...

Was she serious a photo walk...how was I going to do that? It was frigid outside and there is two plus feet of snow in my backyard. But...if you know me at all by now, you know that I refuse to be beaten. So I put on my big girl snow pants and went outside.

Find No. 1

The first thing I found was the light right outside my side garage door covered with a dusting of snow and some lovely frost on the panes of glass.

Find No. 2

Next I found the pine cone my daughter had put out last year covered with peanut butter and birdseed. The peanut butter and birdseed are long gone, but the pine cone remains.

Find No. 3

I found rhododendron buds on my bush waiting for spring.

Find No. 4

I made a path to the wood pile.

The wood pile made me happy and so worth wading through the snow.

Find No. 5

Then I waded across the backyard to the compost bins.

It was cold and it was snowy, but you know what it was also a lot of fun, and I proved to myself that I don't have to let the weather stop me.

My reward for completing my photo walk...

I got to snow blow the driveway.

The downfall of glasses. After this I claimed my reward of a nice chai latte.

I hope everybody is staying warm out there.

What a lovely post! My goodness life must be tough with all that snow. I can't imagine how we'd survive with the half of it over here. Our infrastructure collapses for the least little thing. Half an inch of snow and the UK grinds to a juddering halt. But I enjoyed your snowy walk outdoors. I totally sympathise with the glasses issue, although on the plus side mine have saved my eyes from being gouged by canes and sticks on a few occasions when I've been gardening outside. All the best for the weekend, Bonny

Good morning, so nice to see your smiling face even though it is 1 out. You have us beat. We are at 2. Looks like a winter wonderland. So glad you are enjoying your new class.

Right now we are at 3 with lots of wind. I am staying in today. I like your selfie all covered in snow. It tells it all.

It was - 11 F actual temperature (I have no idea what the windchill was) at 6am when my husband left for work. He said it felt like his eyelids froze to his eyes. I wish I would have taken a screen shot of the temperature with my phone like you did, such a good idea. You are brave to go out in the very very cold weather to take pictures. I enjoyed your snowy photo shoot. I will not be going outside to take pictures until it warms up, maybe tomorrow. They say we will have a high of 36 F. Go figure. Stay warm!

Your walk and finds made me smile - you persevered in spite of the cold...the snowblower was a good chuckle. I LOVE your wood pile photo!!

Oh my gosh, I just love this....but you with the snow dripping (can snow drip?) from your hat and on your glasses is just the cutest ever!! :)

Yes - the glasses. They don't make it easy in the winter & then when you walk inside & they immediately fog up?? But the self portrait is adorable and speaks volumes as to the winter we are both experiencing as of late!

you are brave - I've been hiding indoors as well - wind chill well below 0 this week!

What a great day! I almost took her class a couple years ago. Instead I just let her photos inspire me. And they still do. Hope your snow doesn't stick around too long. Today it's supposed to be 81 degrees and this weekend freezing again.

I'm very glad you didn't have to wander far from home to find beauty in your frozen tundra. We're frozen now, too, with more to come overnight. I've said before - you're intrepid, Sarah! But your photos are beautiful.

Glad you got motivated to do the photo walk even if it was just on your own property. Your photos are great and I commend you for getting out into that cold snow. Amazing!

You earned that chai latte while we are rewarded with beautiful photos. I did that class in November 2013 and I loved it!

Good for you for getting out there and snapping pics! Even though I grew up in the Midwest, I could not handle the cold anymore...photo of the wood pile is the best...

I don't know if my comment went through. I said that I always enjoy reading your blogs and today was no different.

What a wonderful post, and what a brave woman you are! I took my photo walk indoors, walking from window to window while looking pathetically out at the 4+ feet of snow piled against the back of the house. I love all your finds, but my favorite was you all covered in snow. That was so unexpected and made me laugh out loud. I'd say you earned your chai latte reward!

Crazy weather. It's been a very long time since I've been in snow like that. And yes...glasses..and the no fog kind haven't been invented yet!

Great post and photos. And you braver than I as I hibernated inside, no big girl snow pants here!

Jill said...

Oh goodness you've all been hit so hard! We have had little snow really and now it's almost gone. Thank goodness for the internet and online classes when you are stuck inside!

Such wonderland photos Sarah, I'm (almost) jealous ;-)
I especially love the one with the flash of pink ...intrigued by your sleeve/glove.
