Photo-Heart Connection ~ January

This is my first contribution to Photo-Heart Connection. I just finished Kat's Find Your Eye: Starting the Journey class and eagerly await The Journey of Fascination. I am in the photo exploration mode right now so this is the perfect filler between the two classes.

The Photo:

My Observations: I love the contrast between her skirt, leggings and the dune grass. I love the lines in the bench and the path leading through the background of the photo. I love the composition. I love how the wind is billowing out her skirt.

The Story Behind the Picture: This was taken on New Year's Day. I was going to my favorite park to take some self-portraits for the New Year. Have to start the year with new pictures. I asked Mallory if she wanted to go along, she said sure (happy momma face :). She would take some new pictures for her blog. Once there we went our separate ways for a while, until she got chilly and returned to my side. She asked if I would take some pictures of her so she could change her blog header. Well of course I would. We played around for a while with different poses, saw some keepers on the screen, so we packed up to go home and warm up.

My Heart Connection: I will state the obvious, this is my daughter and my only child, who I love with all my heart. I am flattered that at 19 she still wants to hang out with her mom. I was also flattered that she asked me to take some photos of her (a rare treat for a parent). I loved having her home for that month at Christmas, since she goes to school 8 hours away, I don't see her very often. That month was such a gift to be cherished and thanks to this photo I have a lovely reminder of a wonderful afternoon spent together.

I LOVE this photo...the pattern on the skirt contrasts so beautifully against the muted tones in the background! It really pops. And I completely relate to every word you said about your daughter (and only child)...I feel the exact same way. :)

Lovely, it's great when they want to hang out... Mine are both coming for dinner next week to celebrate my birthday even though we all live in the same town it's not that often that all our schedules align....

What a lovely story! As our children grow and become independent, we cherish those wonderful moments that we can get when we are able to enjoy their company.

So nice that you were able to share this moment of connection with your daughter and that you enjoyed your photo shoot with her. I can imagine that this photo holds a lot of meaning for you. I like the background of the path and the grasses and your daughter's skirt blowing in the wind!

I can certainly see why this lovely photo tugs at your heart! It's hard to let our children grow into adulthood. We simply miss them! I know I cherish each moment I'm able to spent with my daughter and son.

This is a great shot! I enjoyed reading this; every now and then my daughter and I get to schedule some time together...she's the momma of a very busy 2 year old! Times to be treasured for sure!

Very nice, I love the photo and what you said. When our kids get older they just don't like Mom taking their photos. When my son is home he likes to go on walks with me, he lives in a city now and can really appreciate the park. My daughter Megan will be going away to school next year. I am hoping not too far...

I hope you are enjoying your class. My project is taking quite a lot of time but I am determined to get it done. Thanks for always visiting!

I agree, a lovely post - my son refuses to let me take his photograph which is so sad. Sounds like you are enjoying the class.

A lovely photo with a spirit of light-hearted fun. It brought back the pleasure of my own daughter's visits home from college. Those times were special. (Twenty-plus years later, we're still best friends.) I like Mallory's blog...she seems like a wise and thoughtful young woman.
