5 Random Friday Finds

Find No. 1

I found this lovely weed encased in ice last weekend while we were in Traverse City. I love iPhone apps! Something so simple turns into a piece of artwork.

Find No. 2

The one drawback of melting snow is that it creates icy sidewalks.

Find No. 3

To avoid the icy sidewalks, Scout and I have now decided to walk the heated sidewalks of our downtown. Two four block loops takes us about 50 minutes.

Find No. 4

In November I did a photo documentary project for our church for Advent. The theme was Hope. The week I had to shoot for the theme was despair and Hope. This is Mallory in front of the District Court downtown.

This week while we were walking downtown, I decided to recreate the shot with Scout. I think he looks a little more hopeful than Mallory.

Find No. 5

I love wooden docks, and I am especially loving them this winter. The contrast between the wood and the ice is wonderful.

Very nice. Wow, heated sidewalks? And yes Mallory does look a bit down. Have a wonderful weekend!

So much ice. I do live Find 1 - it is art. Heated sidewalks? I didn't know towns had them. Around here is would be considered a luxury of the rich. But it must make shopping much easier.

How amazing! Heated sidewalks! That sounds so luxurious to me - but how lovely to get rid of the dangerous ice when out walking!

Love your shots Sarah, and think that it is so fascinating that your city has heated sidewalks. How amazing is that. don't think I have ever heard of that before. Love that hopeful shot of your fur friend. Hope your new year is going great!

Love your first photo, it is a work of art! I can't believe your city has heated sidewalks. That is great. I want to get a heated driveway so I don't have to shovel it. :) Actually we have been pretty lucky with the snow this year, compared to last year. The contrast between the ice and dock is wonderful, you captured it wonderfully too. Have a great weekend!

Hi Sarah, Find No. 3 lets me in on how you are getting those 15,000 steps a day in! Love your iPhone work - the ordinary slices of life really are works of art - a good realization to keep our attitude positive. The pier against the backdrop of the icy river is gorgeous (I'll try some shots like this too if the water freezes over here in Virginia). And yes, I agree with Michelle, that first photo is supreme art - makes me get lost in my own thoughts. Have a great weekend my adventurous friend!

I agree with Amy! That first shot is a work of art. Heated sidewalks? That's cool. Love your b&w conversions. Happy Friday!

If we had a downtown like that I'd walk it every day. People here walk at the mall. (thumbs down, that can get expensive, but the people watching may be interesting) Love Scout, what a trooper!

Love the edit on your fist shot and Scout is such a good sport - I think he pulls off Mallory nicely. :)

Heated sidewalks - so jealous.

Heated sidewalks? I'm so envious. Ours look like your first sidewalk photo. I took a really scary fall on a patch of black ice a few years ago, and it made me very nervous of winter walking. I seldom go out without slipping the ice grippers onto my boots. It feels so good when the sidewalks really do get clear and I can stretch my legs out in a normal stride.
That frozen dock looks so COLD!

Heated sidewalks? Really??? I could handle that. And I've already told you of our shared affinity for docks so you know I love that photo.

While all of your Friday Finds are wonderful, I like the wooden dock the best

Great finds and with the i-phone...wonderful winter shots...I love that you can walk your neighborhood...we can do that here also...and there is a state park 10 minutes from our house with a lovely road...but it is icy...so on clear days I walk and on bad days I'm in the basement on the treadmill...
I love Scout out there giving us all hope and the wooden dock is lovely ...great job on texturing that...our wooden dock is that red that everyone seems to use these day...yours is much prettier.

Your creative take on the photos is great. Love that dock and the icy sidewalk.

I think we're all impressed with the heated sidewalks! Love your finds this week! I'm enjoying the docks you've been posting! They're cold looking, headed right into that ice!

Love the one of Scout sitting patiently.

Great shots, Sarah. I thought the first one was an old - very old - photograph of the sun glimmering on the sea that had been really creased and become coloured with age. And then I read that it was a weed encase in a block of ice taken by your iphone! So I didn't even come close ... maybe it's time I went to see those nice people who sell new spectacles! I love your icy jetty: I love jetty photos too, but I've never been anywhere where the wooden jetty runs out into solid ice. My goodness it must be cold with you! All the best for a lovely weekend, Bonny
