Find No. 1
Glen gave me a new gadget for Christmas, something I was not expecting, a Garmin Vivosmart. It is similar to a Fitbit. I love it. It tracks my steps, vibrates when I have been sitting too long. It vibrates when I have a phone call or text message coming in. Which is very handy because if my phone is in my purse I tend to miss calls and texts because I don't hear them. It links with My Fitness Pal so I can record my meals everyday, and it also vibrates if you haven't tracked your meals for the day. Harder to ignore that way. I have set my steps per day goal to 15,000. It is amazing how many steps you can get in snow blowing the driveway once or twice a day, in addition to walking the dog.
Find No. 2
I found six inches of snow on the deck when I got up the other morning. We have gotten more since then.
Find No. 3
I finally found a new hat to go with this coat. It is a cute slouchy hat. Maybe when I take it off in March, my hair will have finally grown to the point where I can have a hairstyle. Right now I take one step forward and two back every time I get it cut while my new stylist tries to fix past problems.
Find No. 4
I found empty marina boat slips are awesome to photograph in the winter.
Find No. 5
For my new blog, A Year Beside the Water, I am aiming to take one iPhone photo a day of a water related landscape and post them in the gallery section of my blog. If you are curious about what I have taken so far you can click here and see.

Thank you for reminding me about your new blog. I'll be over in the few days to visit. That Garmin sounds really cool. I've been sort of kind of looking at that fit bit. Love the slouchy hat
I've never heard of as Garmin Vivosmart which reminds us how to live! The steps part sounds really good, but I wouldn't want it interfering in anything else! I really like the water shots, but they do make me feel cold. I have to admit that this season makes beautiful photography opportunities. I'm so happy to have seasons, aren't you?
I have a Fitbit but yours is fab I quite often will miss phone calls.your water shots are the best...
Wow 15000 steps good for you! I am doing 7000 a day with the program at work. Looks mighty chilly by you... have a wonderful day!
The Garmin sounds more inclusive than the Fitbit - I really like the phone feature. Your water images are brilliant and may I say "brrrrr!".
Lovely photos, Sarah. My goodness, how cold it looks in your neck of the woods. I love the poetic emptiness of the deserted boatyard: in a new and novel way it sums up the barrenness of winter, and makes me look forward to the happy days of summer when the sailing folk can start pottering around on their boats again. All the best and stay cosy for the weekend, Bonny
I love the winter docks photo.
Such great finds. My favorite is the boat slips. Gorgeous shot!
Hi sarah, Well I guess winter is here and you have over 6" of snow to prove it ... but also you have managed to capture some beauty that can only be found in winter! Love both your photos of the water ... so peaceful. I know what you mean about fixing hair problems ... winter is good time to change!! have a great weekend!
I am impressed with the 15,000 steps and the Garmin wrist thingy. I was going to get a Fitbit . . . the Garmin better?
I am looking forward to seeing your hair!
I just love your image # 4. I don't hear my phone either and people get a bit annoyed with me for not answering. Not too many people call me though...so it's OK. I don't think I would want all those reminders buzzing my wrist all day...I have something similar as an app on my iphone and I like that it counts steps.
With your wrist vibrating you sure can't forget to take a few more steps, great find. Your water shots are awesome! I love all the lines in your river shot and the marina image deserve to be framed and hanging on the wall. Great hat too. Have a good weekend!
i've thought about getting a step counter but after wearing your for a couple days I'd put it back in the box or reprogram it. Can you turn off the food part? Your gallery is amazing girlfriend. You will go places.
Oh, such winter beauty you have captured! It does look cold, but it looks like a place I'd love to be!! Wish we could get a little snow! Love your new hat!
I am not familiar with Garmin but it certainly sounds like a device that will keep you moving....Your shots of the water are just awesome...Headed over to your new blog...
Your find number 4 is really fantastic !
Your fitness gadget sounds pretty amazing! And I think you are a brave woman to let a new stylist have her way with your hair. I hope you'll soon see something you're pleased with taking shape. I love the frozen, empty boat slips; the contrast between the water in the foreground and the ice surrounding everything.
Great finds, Sarah !
A year beside the water ... what a lovely idea !
Have a nice weekend,
Sylvia
Great finds, great photos but that one of the empty boat slips stole my heart!
Hi Sarah, I am delighted to meet you. I was spending a few minutes blog hopping before going out to my barn to work on a quilt that I'm piecing. I'm not sure how I found you, but I'm very happy that I did. That photo of the marina is totally amazing. If you enter photo contests, that one is a winner . . . absolutely gorgeous and intriguing, it has such a moodiness about it. I see that you live in Western Michigan, I realize that, that can take up a lot of area, but I was raised in Michigan City, IN, at the very south end of Lake Michigan. Do you know it? I haven't been back in many years. Even though I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for over 40 years, there will always be a part of my heart that belongs to the Midwest. Well, like I said, it is nice to meet you and if you have time please hop over to my blog. At the moment I am having my three years of blogging birthday and a Give-A-Way. Not much but it is handmade :)
Your new blogging sister,
Connie :)
Love the last two water shots...oh that empty boat slip! And that garmin thing, had never heard of it, but sounds so cool!
I love your post and pictures :-) I agree with Kim about the water shots and the empty boat slip!
whoa…15,000 steps a day? wow! you're my hero. we used to use the UP bands and i finally got tired of something always on me…is that weird ?? love the hat…and your comment….made me laugh :) and the marina photo….wow. that is simply gorgeous !!!
the southern man was a fitbit - I'll have to tell him about the garmin device - he is the gadget guy! beautiful water shots - love it!
Yikes that's a lot of snow. We had a little bit, but mostly cold. Love the photo of the empty marina.
I've joined a health thing at work where we all wear some type of pedometer and have various challenges - it's got me thinking I might like to upgrade to a Fitbit. I love you hat - very cute and hip! Your photo of the marina is awesome!
my husband bought me a fitbit just before thanksgiving, and i wear it every day. it doesn't tell me when i've been sitting too long (usually my veiny will let me know by going slightly numb ; ) ), but i really like mine. and that marina shot is gorgeous! hope you have a good weekend!
Those are some great finds. - I think having something like that to remind one to get up and walk is a smart idea.
Very nice hat.
Those last 2 shots are amazing. I loved the Marina one so much.
How are you enjoying your new gadget? I think it would drive me crazy...:-)
Your gadget sounds inspiring and irritating at the same time!! LOVE your water photos.
The marina photo is fantastic! I love it.
You said you'd like to see photos of the inn where I bought my churro sheep yarn - here is a link to the place: https://www.camerontradingpost.com/
Enjoy!
that garmin looks good, I need one of those! love your photos, looks like you have been very busy
Sarah, Photo Find No.4 is my favorite - so rich in detail and yet still simple. I love my fitbit, but your Garmin is pretty snazzy, too. I aim for 10,000 steps a day - so you are ahead of me. I do use My Fitness Pal, too - though only to help me maintain my weight (I lost 20 pounds almost 2 years ago). So much to love here!
