Missing Things

As I sit here writing this, I am anxiously awaiting the clock to strike the 8 o'clock hour. I need to cancel my haircut for 9 o'clock this morning. With a real time temperature of -1 and a wind chill of -23, my hair can wait another week. With these horrifying temperatures my hair is going to be living under a hat whenever I go out anyway, and hat hair looks like hat hair whether it has been cut or not.

As I sit here writing, Scout is sitting closely by my side, starring at me woefully. He is wondering what has happened to his morning walks, or any walk at all for that matter. The best he has right now is to go from the downstairs slider, along the path that Glen has shoveled to the bottom of the deck steps, up those and back into the house through the slider on the porch. A good 50 yards at the most. The poor darling, his is bored out of his mind.

As I sit here I think "well I was going to start writing on Tuesday mornings", but that was suppose to start next week. No time like the present I guess.

Most of all as I sit here starring out the window at this wintery nastiness, I started thinking about all the things I miss…

I miss a fire in our fire pit, sitting around it reading a book and enjoying its warmth.

I miss grass. I even miss mowing it, but don't tell Glen that.

I miss the splashes of color that the flowers in my garden offer.

I miss the growing heirloom tomatoes in my narrow little vegetable garden.

I miss my "Taking the Backroads" adventures. My wanderlust is hugely unsatisfied right now.

I miss Lake Michigan and the beach.

Most of all I miss walks with the dogs. Walking through the neighborhood making sure everything is as it should be.

So even though I know I need this time of year, because it forces me to stay inside and do all the things I put off the rest of the year. I am just not an inside person, there is too much to see and explore out in the world, and I hate missing it.

I found myself shaking my head yes to every single thing you miss, well minus the firepit since we don't have one. And even though we don't have blustery snow, or ice or the temps you have, it is only in the twenties here and this once upon a time Chicago girl can't take the cold any longer. I love the photo of you, so happy and contagious, and that view through the window...sigh. I even got up early, and went outside with my bubbles in hopes of capturing some frozen ones, but just no luck and do you know how hard it is to blow them AND chase them down at the same time? haha Well, now I've left a short novel....have a great day, lovely post!

Oh yes I am sitting by the window typing this as I look on a grey, windy day. Still I must be grateful compared to all the others that are freezing or flooded....

I am missing all of those things too, except the yard mowing bit. I have four dogs who have the run of our farm and they are also dying of boredom!

Yikes it really is cold by your. We are getting close. I miss the flowers. Looks like it is going to be a long winter.

I am missing the same . . . cabin-ish fever is setting in what with our wintery mix that has gone on for days and days!
Tell Scout that Snickers agrees . . . what happened to the morning walk?

Love the photos, love seeing you, your beautiful home setting, the beach, the winding wood trail, all . . .

The hair can wait, guess I will cancel my pedicure . . . who sees toes through wool socks anyway!

So cold here too! Seeing your warm photos makes me dislike the cold even more!

Sarah, I melt a little bit at seeing the warm weather photos, but the window shot is beautiful, you in your mitts and hat is wonderful and seeing your sweet pooch lying on the carpet is very calming. I haven't run in over a week and I'm getting antsy. I may just go out today anyway, though the skin on my face will regret it!

Love these photos. I can't even imagine temps like that. That window shot is ultra cool. Happy New Year!

Oh I am with you 100%....I am feeling very trapped right now and really missing the outdoors, but all this will pass, and it will be spring again, we can count on it. I was going thru some summer flower images last night and really was longing for spring to return, but we need this downtime to appreciate the warmth & sunshine & walks & adventures.

I love winter, but I'm missing the green and the warmth now, too. But your photos are a lovely way to imagine it's summer! :-) The photo through the window is stunning!

I'm not ready for summer temps that we get down here in Southern Coastal Texas, but I do miss the comforts of Springtime!!! It's been bitterly cold here too, and it's so unusual. I hope soon the clouds break and our warmer, milder temperatures come back to us.

I bet your dogs ARE wondering just what the heck is wrong when there are no daily walks with you!!!

Thanks for stopping by the other day to pay me a visit. I'm slow getting around to everyone this week...hope your days indoors in this bitterly cold snap are good ones. Stay warm!!!

I'm trying very valiantly to enjoy each day, no matter the weather -- and that's a challenge with this cold, yes?

Spring will be here sooner than we think. Hang in there Sarah!

I love winter, but I do miss just grabbing my camera and heading outside. Now, it's put on the insulated, two pair of socks, coat, gloves, hat...all adds up to a lot of trouble when you can stay outside very long! I'm just ready for it to get above freezing, which may be today!! Stay warm!

Cabin fever already, huh? Right now the only thing I'm missing is not being sick. We've had the worst worst winter of sickness around this house.

I do love winter and your winter shot looking out is gorgeous. I definitely wouldn't cancel a haircut - it would take me forever to get another appointment! You live in a scenic place, no matter the season.

Wicked cute selfie with hat (and certainly hat hair below). Just today I was thinking, 'tis the season to embrace the hat hair. Just own it proudly.
I miss a lot of that stuff too, but you know that already. : )

Yes I feel your pain! But my fave photo is the window one. It speaks volumes.
Hang in there!

I know how you're feeling with all the cold and snow we're getting this winter. I too sometimes look outside and actually wish I was cutting the grass.

I wonder if there are things about these winter days that you will miss once they are past?
