Where I Grew Up

On Saturday, Mallory and I went out to my parent's house for a visit. They had not seen her yet since she came home for Spring Break. My dad would never let her get away without a visit.

I thought I would bring my camera along and explore with it for Walk and Click Wednesday.

Exploring where I grew up...

The red barn where my pony use to live when I was young, and where my dad now keeps his tractor.

My dad is a man that is always doing something around the house. For a few years he made maple syrup, he even has a Sugar Shack, which he now uses for storage. You will see he has many buildings for storage.

My fellow explorer :)

My dad has been a bee keeper for over 30 years. He has seen really good years and some really bad years. This sign is on his pole barn (different from the red barn and the Sugar Shack).

The last few years he has lost a lot of bees over the winter. There is a mite problem that has continually gotten worse. Not good.

The former Christmas Trees. See this post where I talk about the Christmas Trees.

My dad's chicken coop. This place gave me the creeps growing up, now it is a photography dream for someone who loves old, falling apart buildings.

I found the pad lock on the chicken coop quite funny....

The back of the chicken coop. LOL!

My parents live on 23 acres, so I had lots of outdoor space growing up. It is no wonder I love being outside so much.

My very favorite part of your post is your sweet Mallory ... and that she is so happy to explore with you. I wish my boys (young men) would accompany me. Scott has a couple times, but you know ... they are off living their lives. It is amusing to have a lot on a chicken coop whose behind is exposed! I love the colors of the lock, hinge, and slats. So sad that the bees got mites. Thanks for sharing in Walk and Click Wednesday!!

Sarah, that looks like a marvelous place to have grown up. I love the beekeeper-only parking sign and the hives in the snow, though I was sad to see all the dead bees. I know bee populations are in trouble all over, and not just in this country. I laughed at that padlock too - then figured it's probably the only thing holding the last bits of that chicken coop together. What a great Walk and Click!

Beautiful post. My parents have moved several times from my growing up home-must be nice to visit. My fave shots are the bee keep boxes (or whatever they're called)and the 3rd from last shot of the chix coop. Better lock in that front side-hee, hee. too funny. Back in the day when I would come "home" from college or job away, my grandmother was one of my first visits. Glad they could connect. Happy day Sarah.

Sarah, this is awesome! It is so cool to be able to visit the home where you grew up and catalog it like this, something few of us are able to do.

You were blessed to grow up in such a special place and still blessed to be able to go right back to home.

What a great place for photography! I am always jealous of people who have access to places like this. The lock is funny. Love the sugar shack. There is one I have photographed near me, but the wife passed away and they are no longer making syrup. It is very sad when things like that change.

How lovely to have all that space! I remember going back to an old house to show my husband where I spent my formative years. It was so odd how all the memories flooded right back in.

What a lovely time together! Your daughter is beautiful! Love the shot with the beehives. My grandson and I saw the first bee of the season today on a dandelion flower. Your images make me do some thinking. My childhood home is just a couple of doors away and yet I've not spent time there with my camera. I need to remedy that. Great post today!
