Apple Picking

I have had a secret desire to go apple picking ever since I decided four years ago to pursue photography whole-heartedly.

Now, please understand I have no desire to actually pick the apples, I want to photograph my loved ones picking apples.

For four years I have waited. Now with Mallory graduated from college and back home again, imagine my delight when she said she wanted to go apple picking on her birthday.

Her favorite apple is the Honey Crisp, and the picking of those had only begun the week before, so we had the timing just right.

The weather initially did not look favorable for her birthday, the forecast starting with 90% chance of rain, and then dropping to 80%, then to 60%. It did rain overnight, and the morning started out overcast, but by the time we finished breakfast at a new local restaurant, the clouds were parting and blue skies emerged.

I was excited to dig out my 85mm prime lens for this festive occasion. With Mallory home again, I think it will get a lot more use.

Happy 22nd Birthday to my beautiful girl!

Eventually, we had to get a wagon because we they had picked so many apples.

This moment warms my heart. Even though in reality they were probably arguing about who should be pulling the cart.

It was a wonderful day, and my apple picking photography desire has been satisfied, at least for this year.

I love that first image with the raindrops dripping from the apple. And the one of your lovely Mallory with the apple. Oh, and the last ones with the little wagon, too! I'm so glad the weather turned out to be so perfect - I had worried for you. What a great day of memory-making!

A lovely post and shots of apple picking! There's nothing like the smell of a freshly picked apple from an orchard! The supermarket ones just don't have that! I've just made some apple crumble, and it's in my last posting, I believe you called that apple crisp!

What a great day you had! Should we expect pictures of apple pies in the future? :) I enjoyed your pictures, your 85mm prime has wonderful bokeh.

What a great day. You documented it beautifully. We have 3 apple trees in our backyard and this year they produced a record number of apples. We have made pounds of applesauce and a good number of frozen apple pie fillings.

We have an orchard at work which we were given permission to pick the apples this week. So, high heels, suits and apple picking, not the usual, or more comfortable option, but the apples were delicious! How lovely that they were together for this 'bonding' exercise! Take care xx

I love images of apple orchards and people picking apples. Such a great thing to do. We had a late frost in May that did serious damage to apple crops around here so I probably won't be picking any this year. We lost all the blossoms on our own trees too. But looks like you have lots! And a belated happy birthday to your beautiful girl, Mallory!

A great photo-journal of a special time, Sarah. I especially like the wagon pics, but they are all quite nice. Another fun adventure.

and honey crisp….my favorite…and when those are gone, sweet tangos are my "go to" now after years
of trying to find a honey crisp replacement!!!

I did the same thing a couple of years ago with my family. They did the pickin' I did the shootin'. So glad the day turned out beautiful for your dream to come true and Mallory's birthday. Great captures of your adventures in apple picking!!

Pies made with them are beyond delicious.

Actually picking apples can be pretty fun too! But taking pictures is probably the best. We had such an abundance of apples last year....tooooooo many! I froze and baked forever. So, maybe this year I will only take pictures, ha!

How lovely to go apple picking....not sure we can do that over her. Never seen it advertised, anyway.
Your photos are delightful Sarah....full of love and beauty.

Love your shots of the apple picking and Mallory is lovely. I can't believe that she is now graduated from college. How time flies by. I was just in Door county for a week and lots of folks up there picking apples
