I found this vintage pencil sharpener last week at my favorite antique mall. I am in love...the best $10 I ever spent.
Find No. 2
The kitchen repainting is coming along nicely, although I found it took me all day to get it done, so much cutting in. I would rather roll! I do love the color though.
Find No. 3
I took the house phone off when I painted and I found I didn't really miss it. Nobody ever calls us on it except telemarketers. If somebody wants to talk to me they call my cell phone. Maybe after vacation it will go away permanently.
Find No. 4
This is what you will find on my nightstand this week. I stocked up at the library on Tuesday. We are leaving for a two week of vacation and I plan on reading a lot.
Find No. 5
I found my poppies are just starting to come out, so I wanted to capture one before we left since they might be done before we get back home. In reality this poppy is very red, but I love the softer more desaturated look here.

Very nice . . . Happy Vacationing . . .
Lovely photos, Sarah. We still use pencil sharpeners that are similar to your lovely antique one. I got fed up with the little hand-held ones and opted for something with a more industrial capacity. Congratulations on your kitchen repaint. It looks great in the new colour. The only book on your in-tray that I've read is The Last Runaway. I enjoyed it very much, but I'm a big Tracy Chevalier fan. Loved your poppy, and wish you a very happy holiday. All the best, Bonny
I couldn't wait to pop over and see your Friday Finds as I always get such good ideas from you, Sarah. First photo is to die for - that pencil sharpener is perfect - such an engineering marvel and yet so elegant and useful. Great composition and texture. Printed, this would make a great back-to-school card! Poppies in your garden - you lucky girl! I have taken a few poppy pictures too, and yes they are so vibrant the color always seems more pleasing a little less saturated in a picture (though perfectly vivid to our eyes). Thanks for the book suggestions; I'll add a few to my summer reading list. Kitchen with fresh paint looks beautiful - soft sage green - my favorite color. Have a great vacation!
Nothing beats those old pencil sharpeners! What a lovely week.
good morning Sarah... love the vintage pencil sharpener and I bet it works like a charm! Oh, the painting job. That is one job that my husband refuses to do ... he always has trouble with getting the line between the wall and the ceiling correct. Any tips? Looks like yours is perfect! Love the color too! Have a great vacation ... take lots of photos!!
Hello Sarah first of all have a wonderful holiday I look forward to your trip report when you get back !! Those books look interesting Songs of Willow Frost sounds intriguing ...
pic of pencil sharpener is divine! as well as poppy...mine not out yet...
and as for the telephone...we did away with the lan line a couple of years ago now...just the cell...its great - you are right that the only ones calling were telemarketers...no more!
have a great vacation!
Hi Sarah, your kitchen looks great! I wish I could make up my mind on a color for mine. I love your stack of books - The Lost Wife is one of my all time favs! I also enjoyed Songs of Willow Frost, but not quite as much as his Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. I need to read the Berg book and look into the others! Have a great vacation!!
Oh, I do love that pencil sharpener!!!!!! A two-week vacation sounds marvelous. Two weeks really gives you time to unwind, relax. mellow out. Enjoy!
What a cool pencil sharpener, love your kitchen colour, and that poppy is gorgeous. Enjoy your vacation!
such interesting things! Love your kitchen colour!
Great finds Sarah and have a great vacay!!!
Love your book pile...that's how I like to go on vacation also...report back on them when you return...I love the desaturated poppy...kind of a jazzy color..
Have a great two weeks....and be safe.
Cool finds - and I like the kitchen color as well. Enjoy your vacation; safe travels.
Sweet finds! That sharpener is awesome and looks great with the spelling book. Yr kitchen is looking so nice. If we unplugged the phone we would have peace in the house. Can't cancel it tho. The alarm is hooked to it.
I love that first image - what a great composition, the pencil sharpener, spelling book, and simple pencil. The "dirty" processing is perfect. I've spent the last few days poking around in an attic and everything up there looks like that! :-)
I always love finding and using old things as they LAST! There is something so special about the metal versions that are not under guarantee :-)
Your photos of both the pencil sharpener and poppy are warm yet dramatic. Amazing editing! Hopefully your vacation will be restorative.
Lovely finds this week, especially the pencil sharpener! Love the new paint color. I'm want to paint in a few weeks if I can get up the energy. My old knees do not like climbing the ladder! I'm jotting down some of the titles on your nightstand. I took a book to the beach, but never opened it. Of course, there were five grandsons there that were much more fun!! Love the poppy, I love the desaturated look, too, makes if very vintage looking! Enjoy your vacation!
Absolutely love your friday finds and that pencil sharpener is totally awesome!
