Scene & Story - December 2016

Bring out the camera and everyone in my family becomes a comedian.

I was trying to photograph this cookbook from a low angle for week eight of my 52 week photography project when my daughter decided to insert her comical face into the frame. By the grace of God I caught the shot perfectly and it immediately became my favorite photo from the whole project that week, yet one I could not use because it didn't fit the story.

This adorable shot of my serious child gives my heart that fluttery feeling. It is rare to capture these moments of my adult child who is stuck in her childhood life. She is ready for so much more, an adult job with an adult salary and place of her own. She is also ready for someone special to be in her life, the invisible scars of past relationships nearly healed.

As her mother I see how gifted and talented she is, I know that others will see that too. I pray that 2017 is the year that she begins her magical adult life.

P.S. I did get her permission to use the photo :)

**Scene & Story is a collaborative effort between myself and Lee of Sea Blue Lens. We encourage you to share a favorite photo from the previous month along with a short story or description and link up your blog or Flickr photo. Please remember to visit the other story sharers and leave a little love everywhere you visit.

I love this! In addition to all those other sterling attributes you mentioned, she's also got a great sense of humor! I hope 2017 will be the beginning of all those things she's dreaming of. Thanks for managing the linkup, Sarah. It works perfectly. Now all we need is one of those badge-thingys for our sidebars! :-)

Something tells me this will be one of, if not the, favorite photo of your daughter throughout her lifetime. What a treasured moment! BTW ~ I went back through your blog ~ as a former golden retriever momma, I loved the two posts about your beautiful goldens! I know you don't know me, with this wonderful connection I came to you via seabluelens, a treasured friend and former painting buddy!

I understand this photo and sentiment acutely as my youngest son is in much the same place. I see a world of promise and potential in him, and I see him for the funny and fascinating man he is right this minute, too! Love this picture of Mallory (who I feel as though I know after years of reading your blog) and the sentiment behind the shot. Thanks to you and Lee for hosting the link-up, too!

What a fun catch - and perfect timing! As a mother of two daughters - one married and one not - I can relate to your hopes and dreams for your daughter. This generation seems to do things a little differently and I have a lot of faith that both of our daughters will find their own paths in their own time. In the meantime, we get moments like these to share. Thank you for hosting!

What a treasure this photo is now and will continue to be! In my opinion the best images we can capture of people are just like this, spontaneous and showing a glimpse of personality that posed shots can never convey.

This is wonderful, Sarah, both the photograph and the words.

This was touching to read. Our youngest is on the cusp of leaving the fantasy years of childhood. It is a bittersweet transition. I feel, "Hey look how far we've come!" and also, "No, put your dino pajamas back on and let's read a picture book together one more time."

Love that your daughter, although growing into adulthood, still has a childhood heart. I hope she never loses it! I'm glad that you and Lee decided to host the link-up. I'll look forward to some great stories!

These moments bring complete joy to a mama's heart - love when my kids are spontaneous like this. Thank you for this new link up - looking forward to sharing more in this year.

Sarah, I am so glad you and Lee decided to create this link up....It has impressed upon me to think of the story behind my photographs.....Love the picture of Mallory..You know they are our kids no matter how old they get. I am being encouraged by your photograph to try more black and white....It's hard for me as I love color so much....

So. Much. Here. First - YAY YAY YAY for this link up! I love this practice, and I am so excited to join in with you! Second - very fun shot of those 'hard to catch' adult kids. My favorite thing is that phrase "adult child stuck in her childhood life" - My son moved out on his own in September. He is such a capabale and hard working guy who...thank you college loans and expensive city of Boston... could just now genuinely afford to hold down his own place. It was a long time coming as we haven't ever been able to underwrite any of our kids' exploits..... I can so relate to the feelings you express and the capture that tugs at your heart!!

Proof in point that even the simplest of things, an instantaneous "silly" moment by your daughter, can make a lovely story - and a great picture. Very fun.

A great story. And, I know how you feel with my one daughter about the same age. She has her job though and I am so very grateful. But, now the one to share it with. I will pray for your daughter too!

Terrific post, Sarah! My "baby" daughter who recently graduated a year early from college declared..."I don't think I like "adulting". Fortunately, she understood the benefits of moving back home while she continues the search for the dream job using her wonderful college degree. A new dog was her reward, and thankfully she is still gainfully employed at her former job while the search continues. Great shot of your daughter there, and it's so sweet that she engages you in your own pursuit of happiness! Aloha!

I love it!! My daughter hates her picture taken and when she 'allows' it, her smile is posed. I don't get a genuine expression often. Great shot! Best wishes to your daughter in the new year. :)
