5 Random Friday Finds

It is the Tulip Time Festival in our beautiful city of Holland, Michigan this week. I took some time Thursday morning to play tourist in my own town. Here are some of the things I found...

Find No. 1

I found tulips. Which you wouldn't think would be that amazing since it is the Tulip Time Festival, but after the long, cold Winter and Spring we have had the tulips are well behind their normal blooming time. They are probably at 30% of their blooming potential right now. Last year at this time they were are 95%. Two years ago when we had the really warm Spring it was the Stem Festival. Every year is a crap shoot.

Find No. 2

A handful of years ago they started bringing in carnival rides for the festival to help make it attractive to all ages. I love the colors in all these great carnival rides. I couldn't resist a little vintage processing on this one.

Find No. 3

I found empty red chairs lined up along the road waiting for the parade. Somebody got up at the crack of dawn to put these out.

I found lots of empty bleachers waiting be filled with tourists this afternoon.

Find No. 4

I found a Carmel Corn wagon. Thankfully it was closed since this is my one junk food weakness.

I found this junk food wagon near the bleachers. Lots of selections here. Again I couldn't resist the vintage processing.

Find No. 5

I found one of the Tulip Time Trolleys.

Bonus Find

While photographing the Trolley, I couldn't resist a couple shots of my favorite doors in the whole city of Holland. I find it interesting how somebody decided to do some math on one of the doors.

Beautiful finds! Love the vintage processing on the carnival ride. It looks so, well, vintage! I also noticed that neat font used for Bell Telephone Building. Pretty cool. I know what you mean about a crap shoot, that is how our cherry blossom festival in Phila is each year.

Now I want a gyro for breakfast! :)

If you are in Holland Michigan then you are about 1/2 hour away from my blogger friend Joyce over at What Happens at Grandma's Blog. She and I and another person were discussing the upcoming tulip festival a week or so ago ! :)

Lovely photos / fun post! :)

good morning Sarah ... I had to laugh at your "festival of the stems" two years ago ... You just never know what mother nature has in store for us! Love that one yellow tulip in the mass of all purple ... was that a oops? Love, love, love your vintage treatment of the ferris wheel and the food wagon ... perfect! I hope you have a wonderful mother's day weekend with your adorable daughter!! How nice that she is back from collage just in time!

Over here in Spalding we usually have the Tulip Festival going through the town with all the tulips pinned onto the floats as they go past. They held their last one last year so there are just static models around the town at the moment. We had the same problem here, you never know what the weather will do around this time, so sometimes there are loads, and like last year, they had to bring them in from Holland (but the Europe Holland). We must have the same weather! Have a wonderful weekend. xx

I love the vintage processing - especially on the Ferris wheel!

Grew up with the Tulip Time, Dutch Dancing and all. I talked with my Mom last night and she said it was 82 degrees in Holland....only reached 45 here. Enjoy the festival.

Our tulips are over and done but these are beautiful to behold! Tulips are good any time. And I think your nostalgic edits on a couple of these were perfect choices. Nice job!

Looks as though your town is ready for a festive time! I love the tulips - ours are probably about the same as yours right now - something to look forward to!

What an awesome spring festival. Here in Virginia I've been to strawberry festivals, daffodil festivals, and watermelon festivals, but never a tulip festival. Your photos paint a picture of the day with all the expected finds and few unexpected, too. Your vintage style editing of the ferris wheel is perfect! My weakness - those funnel cakes covered in powdered sugar!

Fantastic photos... I feel like went along on a little walk with you. We do not really have festivals in my area, I wish we did. Thanks for posting, I feel like I was able to come along with you... visiting from Kim's.

Delightful finds. That lone yellow tulip in the sea of red one's is awesome. I loved your vintage processing on the Tilt-o-Whirl ride (I would never ride on it though) and also on the Concession stand. Now I would sample some of that.

I love how you took all your tulip festival photos without any people in. For me it adds an eery atmosphere - kind of like something terrible has happened off-frame that you're building up to telling us about. Loved your vintage processing effects on the fairground photos. Have a super weekend, Bonny

The purple tulips look all the richer for the one yellow one. You must have been up early in the morning to capture all those scenes empty of people. Sort of the calm before the storm....

Truly wish I lived closer as I would have loved to go with you! Can't believe the tulips have bloomed. The 50° weather last week must have been a big help. As with others, I love the vintage processing. Great finds, especially the math on the door!
