Never Enough Time

My husband was gone from Monday morning until Thursday night this week. So I had four days ahead of me to get lots of projects done. I made To-Do Lists every morning and worked on crossing things off my list and adding new things as I thought of them.

I found that even with four days to myself there was still never enough time to get everything done on the list.  The things that kept getting moved from list to list each day but never crossed off, were the creative things that I wanted to do. For example work on my "about me" page on my blog. This is something that I have wanted to work on since taking Susannah Conway's Blogging from the Heart class. I even have notes for it on Ever Note on my phone, but yet it remains undone.

Finally yesterday, my busiest day of the week, I made the time to get something I really wanted to do done.

Kim Klassen's new class Start to Finish started on Wednesday. I was very good and watched all the videos on Wednesday night, so I knew what I needed to do for the first assignment.

Yesterday morning I set up my still life on the front porch.

I shot to my heart's content, even though I had to be at the Furniture Store I work at on Thursday mornings by 10 a.m.

Yesterday afternoon after a haircut and color, I had time to load my images onto my laptop and begin the culling process. Which by the way, I always do cull right away. I learned the hard way on that subject with thousands too many photos in iPhoto and my computer froze up, now I delete the bad ones right away. Once in a while I regret deleting a photo, but not very often.

I watched Kim's lesson and worked on my photos at the same time. It felt so good to be savoring this creative process and transforming my photo before my very eyes.

I have only gone through all the steps with one photo so far...

Original
Finished Image
I hope to work on the rest of the ones that were keepers this weekend and post the finished images on my blog that is strictly photography related Field Notes & Photos.

What I found this week is that I need to balance household chores with creative pleasures and I will be a much happier girl.

Joining Kim's Friday Finds today.

I have been meaning to work on my "About me" page for about a year now! Why do these things not get done? Maybe we don't want to do them??? Yes, it's definitely about balance. :)

Love your photos and especially your processing on this last one. Amazing transformation!

It's so much easier to handle work/chore related items on a to do list because we feel "obligated" to do that. Anything that is creative or fun we seem to feel is frivolous and yet I think we need to recognize we have an obligation to ourselves to make sure we include fun and frivolous too -- Naomi speaks truth -- it's about balance.

And I love what you've been learning with Kim!

I noticed you had 'photograph flowers' on your list twice and got it crossed off both times. I love a gal who knows her priorities. LOL Awesome image!

I seem to have an never ending to do list as well. As soon as I finish one thing, several more have been added to the list. I'm so glad you took the time for some creativity. Both your before and after photos are beautiful..well done. And I clicked on the link for your other blog. That's great! I loved the shot that included your paisley rainboots. :)

The intense blue petals on the cornflower [? Bachelor's button?] in the original picture stand out for me. Like the way the other flowers recede.

Ain't that the truth? Balance. I used to be so good about making lists and getting things done, now I procrastinate even making the list. I don't know what that's about. I do know that when I get super frustrated something that helps is taking time to be creative. It takes the edge of crap-o-la moods.
I wonder if you made your list alternating one chore, one "fun" chore, back and forth....if you might give yourself more creative time. I find a kitchen timer set for 45 min or an hour gives me the right to be creative without getting lost in space forever.
As for your images....looks like that class will serve you really well.

I love them all...my hope is that the S2F class will give me the kick in the pants I need! Your blog posts always make me feel like I'm closer than ump-teen miles away from you. Superb...as always!

I like you find it very hard to get all the things done that are on my list. I really wanted to take Kim's class but just didn't see how I could do it justice....Your shot is amazing but your edit is absolutely fabulous....I can't wait to see all you will learn in this class....

I guess that is why I never make lists...that way when nothing gets scratched off I am not disappointed (giggle) Hope you enjoy your class. I have signed up for 2 of Kim's classes and never get past the first lesson..bad me.

Darn, I wrote a message and it didn't post ... I love what you did with your image here ... soft and dreamy. And I so get the perpetual to-do list. I think the challenge with "About Me" pages is it's hard to write them without feeling we're bragging. I found it easier to write in the third person. Thanks for the inspiration to get cracking and get to the to-do list. Maybe I'll actually get going!!! lol

I have the same issue regarding giving myself time to do things for myself. Most of the time I enjoy doing household chores and even find many of them creative. Sometimes though, I have to really work towards one direction or the other. I love the way your photo came out by the way

Oh, I hear you. Never enough time. But the balance is so important. I find exactly the same thing. Kim's course sounds amazing, I wish I could have fitted it in this summer. But I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful work from it.

Your line about 'MAKING the time' is crucial to the whole thing. It has been my mantra for years, and it has worked well for me. It's all about prioritizing. Seriously. I can't seem to get ahead of Life lately so that I can 'make the time' for this. All the other stuff I gotta tend to is critical.

You - and a few others - are my lifeline. I MAKE the time to visit your blogs.

xoxo

As always, LOVE all your photos - from start to finish! Even if we added more hours to the day, I'm sure there would still not be enough!!
