My Home Town

Last week the theme for the 52 Week Photography group that I am in this year was My Home Town. So I thought, what would signify Holland, MI? Then I had a little time before my yoga class and decided to take a drive out to Windmill Island. I haven't been to Windmill Island since Mallory was very little, or maybe even longer, which is kind of sad since it is at the east end of downtown and easy enough to get to. This is what I love about Walk and Click Wednesdays, it makes me go places I wouldn't normally go to.


Nothing says Holland like a windmill, and yes this is a real one . The De Zwaan is the only authentic, working Dutch windmill in the United States. Brought over from the Netherlands in 1964. 


Love how this one processed with the sepia tones, it looks very vintage.


I want to go back and take some more pictures of this door.


This was a great old piece of farm equipment near the windmill, heavily covered with frost.

    I've always wanted to visit MI and Holland looks like it will be at the top of the list of places to stay. Love your frost shots.

    Beautiful photos and the frost on the old machinery is so delicate. Like peach fuzz and you captured it beautifully.

    So hard to pick a favorite. The close up of the blue door and the frost is awesome. You make me want to explore more. Need to work on my laziness I guess.

    How beautiful, I'll have to show your post to my BF. He is 3rd generation Dutch but has never been to Holland nor Holland, US :-) I love your detail shots too.

    These are wonderful images! What a great place to go on a photo shoot! I love the windmill, of course, but the frost on the rusty parts is amazing!! I'm visiting from Kat's new class! Can't wait to spend time with you!! You have a lovely blog!
